Fair Housing Policy
Last updated: April 22, 2026
Equal Housing Opportunity
SLO Apartment Listings supports equal housing opportunity. Users may not post listings, send messages, screen renters, or otherwise use the site in a way that violates federal, California, or local fair housing and civil rights laws.
Protected Characteristics
The federal Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability. HUD explains that the law protects people from discrimination in housing-related activities, including renting and advertising. Learn more from HUD's Fair Housing Act overview.
California law also protects people from housing discrimination based on protected characteristics including race, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, and source of income, among others. The California Civil Rights Department provides more information on its Housing page.
Not Allowed On This Site
Users may not post or send content that includes unlawful preferences, exclusions, limitations, or discouragement, including language such as:
- Preferences for or against families with children.
- Preferences based on race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, marital status, or source of income.
- Statements refusing vouchers or lawful rental assistance where prohibited by law.
- Statements discouraging reasonable accommodation or modification requests from people with disabilities.
- Harassing, threatening, or retaliatory messages related to a protected characteristic.
Roommate And Shared Housing Listings
Shared housing can raise nuanced legal questions. Users are still responsible for complying with applicable law when describing roommate preferences, household rules, accessibility, pets, service animals, occupancy, and screening criteria.
Service Animals And Assistance Animals
Pet policies are not the same as fair housing obligations for service animals or assistance animals. Listers are responsible for handling accommodation requests lawfully.
Reporting A Concern
If you see a listing or message that may violate this policy, email admin@sloapartmentlistings.com with the listing URL, screenshots if available, and a short description. You may also contact HUD, the California Civil Rights Department, or a local fair housing organization.
Enforcement
We may edit, reject, remove, or limit listings; suspend accounts; preserve records; or take other reasonable action when we believe content or conduct violates this policy, our Terms, or applicable law.
